Russia to design own 5G base station 2023, tests to start Nov
MOSCOW, Sep 18 (PRIME) -- Russia will make its own 5G/IMT-2020 base station in 2023, and tests of a model set will start in November, a spokesperson for autonomous non-commercial organization Digital Economy told PRIME on Friday.
The initiative was discussed at the organization’s venue within consideration of new leading research centers. Global Wireless Connection Systems, on the base of firm GlobalInformServis, presented a project of creation of a domestic base station 5G/IMT-2020.
Algorithms and software are being researched and developed to become the ground for design of a final product, a 5G base station.
“Creation of the 5G base station is planned for 2021–2022, and production is to start in 2023…In this process, the leading research center acts as a developer of equipment and plans to set up a Russian innovative vendor for 4G and 5G connection networks,” the statement read.
The architecture of the base station is ready, and the next stage is to develop a model set, which will work on 3.3–4.2 GHz as the most popular frequencies for the 5G/IMT-2020 network.
